For several months Anthem Blue Cross and Northbay Medical Center have been negotiating the terms of their contract which was set to expire 5/1/2019. It is Anthem Blue Cross’s intent to reach reasonable contractual language and reimbursement rates that are beneficial to CalPERS Members, Contracted agencies and our respective organizations. Unfortunately, to date, Anthem Blue Cross and NorthBay Healthcare have been unable to reach an agreement and the hospital contract with NorthBay Healthcare terminated effective May 1, 2019.  NorthBay Healthcare operates to hospitals in Solano County; Northbay Medical Center and Northbay VacaValley Hospital.

The below FAQ outlines the continuity of care procedures. California law provides for completion of covered services/continuity of care for certain medical conditions following a provider’s termination.  The current contract between Anthem Blue Cross and NorthBay has provisions that cover members for continuity of care/completion of covered services after the contract terminates. Where appropriate the member or his or her physician can request continuity of care by calling your dedicated CalPERS customer service at  877-737-7776 PPO/ 855-839-4524 HMO.

In addition, all Anthem CalPERS PPO and HMO members have access to the virtual urgent care Live Health Online.  Anthem members can have a video visit 24/7 with a board-certified doctor in minutes by using LiveHealth Online. If it’s needed, a doctor sends a prescription to the members local pharmacy. To access this program all members need is a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a webcam and it only costs the urgent care copay. For more information about this program please visit https://livehealthonline.com/.

Anthem will continue to work with Northbay in hopes an agreement may be reached at a later date. In the interim, we want to ensure you have critical information to support this transitional period. Below please find the FAQ document and member letter. We deeply regret any negative impact this brings to your employees.

For questions, contact CalPERS at 1-888-225-7377.
